Fishing:
Sea-run brown trout (Salmo trutta):
These trout, which migrate to the sea and return upriver to their spawning beds, weigh
from 2 to 12 kilos, with an average weight of 4 kilos.
You need heavy equipment, shooting lines and weighted flies to fight with these
"monsters."Brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis):
A large number of creeks, all spring-fed, have impressive numbers of brook trout that go
wild for small streamers and nymphs, and also take dry flies. The average weight is 800
grams, but its not hard to catch one over 2 kilos.
Resident
brown trout (Salmo trutta):
The Gallegos Chico, a perfect spring creek, is well stocked with resident brown trout that
weigh a half kilo to 2 kilos.
Steelhead
trout (Salvelinus Mikkis):
These rainbow trout the first case of this species migrating to the Atlantic in the
southern hemisphere can get as big as 4 to 9 kilos. We look for them at the end of
the season in the Santa Cruz River 230 km from the lodge. There we take over a hotel in
the town of Comandante Luis Piedra Buena and move in with all our services and logistics.
The equipment is the same as for sea trout, but we recommend reels with good disc brakes.
Catch and
release is obligatory. |
