Activities and Excursions

Excursion to Cape Vírgenes: A tour of the penguin rookery, 15 km from the main house, is followed by a 15-minute hike to the lighthouse. The 47.2-hectare rookery, one of the biggest in Latin America, is the nesting ground of 180,000 Magellanic penguins which arrive at the end of September to brood, and leave with their chicks at the end of April.

Horseback ride to Dinero Hill: From the top of the hill we have a panoramic view of the Strait of Magellan and Tierra del Fuego.

Shearing and wool classification demonstrations:
With technical explanations of practices and processes.

Herding demonstrations:
With sheep dogs bred and trained on the ranch.

Beside the lighthouse at Cape Vírgenes is the ranch’s Al fin y al Cabo tea house, where you can enjoy a choice view out over the Strait of Magellan while savoring delicious homebaked cakes and pastries.

This model Santa Cruz sheep ranch, established in 1880 at the tip of the South American continent facing the South Atlantic and the Strait of Magellan, offers 26,000 hectares of Patagonia and modern services to tourists.

It receives visitors, provides lodging and serves typical Patagonian ranch meals. They see how sheep are shorn and how wool is classified. There are also visits to the Cape Vírgenes penguin rookery and lighthouse.

Guests stay in the century-old main house, which has been restored to offer modern amenities while maintaining its early 20th century architecture.
