Excursion
to the Cave of the Hands:
We drive 18 km of roads inside the ranch from the inn to this UNESCO World Cultural
Heritage site. Along the way, we will see guanacos and lesser rheas and, with luck, some
foxes and native birds. Once we reach the Pinturas River Canyon, we walk 2,000 metres,
with climbs and descents, to get to the caves. In them we will find a wide variety of rock
paintings which include negative and positive handprints, animals and symbols, of which
the oldest were made 10,000 years ago.Overlanding to the Charcamata site:
We drive 30 km through mountains and canyons, fording the Pinturas River from time to
time, in order to get to this totally natural open cave 85 meters wide, 27 meters high and
40 meters deep. On its inner wall are various paintings that are as old as those in the
Pinturas River Canyon.
Excursion to
the condor caves:
We drive 15 km from the inn to the Las Buitreras outpost, the departure point for this
excursion. From here, we continue on horseback for 2 hours, crossing the Pinturas River
and entering the extensive, colorful Estancia Valley. A few meters from there, in a canyon
with walls 150 metres high, we will see condors flying from the overhangs that provide
them shelter. |
