Excursions
Mount San Lorenzo and Oro River valley:
We go north around Lake Pueyrredón and ascend to a lookout point for a panoramic view
out over the mountain lakes. We continue on to the Oro Canyon and the crest of the
mountain range overlooking the valley, from which we can make out Mount San Lorenzo in the
distance. There are condors in the canyon.Lake Posadas:
Going east over the isthmus, we cross a bridge and arrive at Lake Posadas. Further on
there are a bird refuge and volcanic formations of different colors and shapes. In the
area there are dry lakes and rock paintings. A hike of 1 to 2 hours takes us to important
rock paintings on overhangs on Indios Hill.
Furioso
River Canyon:
Fifteen minutes from the inn by car and 150" on foot is a great variety of
pre-Andean steppe vegetation. A bit further on is the Lácteo River valley and lakes
Belgrano, Burmeister and Cansen in Perito Moreno National Park (three days or more on
horseback).
Cave of the
Hands and Lake Ghio:
Access from Bajo Caracoles.
Los Antiguos
via Mount Ceballos:
The high-mountain road passes summer pastures and rock formations of different colors.
From the Roballos pass you can go to Chile or the town of Los Antiguos. The road to Los
Antiguos is passable only if it hasn rained or snowed, and is recommendable only for
4WDs. You will have views of the lakes, the Andes and Mount San Lorenzo. As there is
little traffic and few people live there, it has become one of the regions last
wildlife refuges. It is advisable to inquire about road conditions before setting out.
Baker River
and Carretera Austral road through the Roballos pass:
After Customs, we come to the Chacabuco River and its valley with abundant native
wildlife. Further south are Cochrane and further still Puerto Yungay/Tortel. You can get
as far as Villa OHiggins. To the north is the town of Puerto Bertrand. |
